Over the years we have grown a variety of alternative crops including sugar beets, Coors barley, lettuce, several seed crops (red clover, sweet corn}, Kabocha squash (shipped to Japan), pumpkins, and hemp. To profitably grow this variety of food crops we have purchased specialized equipment, trucks and built packing sheds and coolers to process our vegetable crops, and now have a ‘Mountain Fresh’ label for selling our sweet corn across the U.S. We raise cattle and even planted a peach orchard to fully explore every possible market opportunity. I have been a strong supporter of the Delta Area 4-H program, serve on the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users and a member of the Tri-County

I am a fifth-generation rancher in Montrose and Ouray counties in the Uncompahgre Valley. My family homesteaded the ranch in 1882. I grew up irrigating and taking care of cows. I always wanted to go with my dad when he went to the head gates on the Uncompahgre River. I graduated from Montrose High School and wanted to take a year off from school but ended up never leaving the ranch. I love hanging out with my wife Nicki who is a veterinarian. I enjoy my family, pets and livestock. My family’s ranch and the Uncompahgre Valley would not be what it is today without the Gunnison Tunnel. This is why I am so passionate about water and why I devote so much time to the Water Users board.

I am a fourth-generation farmer from the Pea Green Area. I attended Olathe High School prior to going to college at Colorado State University (CSU). While at CSU I acquired a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business and Soil and Crop Sciences. During my time at CSU I worked at the Water Quality Lab where I learned about the methods to measure water for both flow and quality. After graduating from CSU I was on the Ground Water Advisory Committee and the Colorado Corn Board. All these experiences have prepared me to serve on the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Board. Currently, my family and I farm field corn, sweet corn, onions, beans, and hay. As a board member, I strive to improve our operations, water delivery, and aging water infrastructure to be as efficient as possible.

I am a Delta native and still make my home there with my wife Dani, and our son, Tucker. I grew up
around and worked for several farming operations. Following high school, I worked at West. Elk coal mine for several years. After leaving the coal mining industry, I began working in the construction
industry performing large pipeline installation, gas and oil pad construction, road construction, and
storm water management. Here, I also gained several storm water certifications. For the past. 10 years I have been employed by Honnen Equipment in Grand Junction, selling John Deere construction
equipment. This career has allowed me to acquire a large amount of business knowledge, as well as allowed me to continue being heavily involved in the construction/dirt work and farming industries.
Throughout my years being around construction and farming, I have knowledge of the water
transportation within the UVWUA.

My family has been in the farming/ranching business for 4 generations in the Uncompahgre Valley. I took a break from farming after graduating from Montrose High School in 1991 and attended the University of Utah. While living in Salt Lake City, I obtained a real estate appraisal license and started working for an appraisal firm in 1996. I worked there until I moved back to Montrose in 2001 and started my own appraisal business in 2002. In 2017, I added a broker associate license to my practice. After several years of providing listing and selling services to my clientele, I advanced that license to an Employing Level Real Estate Broker-Associate. I became a member of the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Association in 2024. I believe having an agricultural background, plus appraising, listing or selling thousands of properties located in the Uncompahgre Valley over the past 23 years, has given me the experience and knowledge to be an effective board member.

Motivation: To increase the presence and voice of agriculture interests on local, state and federal issues of importance to the farmers and ranchers in the Uncompahgre Valley. Often producers are underrepresented in policy settings where our livelihood is at risk. Competing challenges are emerging including arenas such as drought management, demand management, Colorado’s Water Plan, and newly approved federal infrastructure planning and funding. There are large overlaps among these efforts that are critical to agriculture in the valley. I was honored to be elected in February, 2022.
