Because we are a United States government water project, we must conform to the Reclamation Reform Act of 1982. This law was enacted to assure that no one person, or group of persons, irrigate land with more than 960 shares of project water so that everyone is assured a portion of water.
To enforce this RRA, the Bureau has designed a certification form to be completed by any person or group of persons that owns or leases a total of more than 240 acres of irrigated land in any project in the western United States. The Bureau is actively monitoring these forms to be sure that each landowner complies with the law.
Each year the certification form, or verification form stating that last year’s information is still correct, must be entered into the landowner’s file to be on hand for the Bureau. Multiple owners must complete a form for the entity and another form for each individual in the entity that owns more than 240 acres of land with project water.
All sections of the certification form must be complete and correct. Both the landowner and spouse must sign the form, even if the spouse does not own the property.
The UVWUA has information sheets from the Bureau concerning the RRA.
